Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Kate Gallagher, LCSW, a trauma and anxiety therapist in Center Valley, PA.

About Kate Gallagher

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in the Lehigh Valley, PA area.  I am also licensed and able to virtually see clients who live in Rhode Island, Illinois, and Michigan.  I work with older teens and adults across the lifespan, with a focus on individuals and couples.  Many of my clients have struggled in relationships and with confidence and anxiety.  These struggles are often rooted in trauma and/or difficult family relationships. I am particularly sensitive to clients who have experienced sexual trauma, and to couples who have struggled with intimacy, communication, and infidelity.

My approach to therapy is rooted in the Humanistic Therapy approach of fostering an empathic, safe, and non-judgmental environment.  This is layered with other evidence based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing Therapy, and EMDR.  Treatment is tailored based on each client/couple’s needs and comfort levels.

I am committed to helping my clients experience real progress, so that their lives and relationships are positively impacted by the therapeutic progress in meaningful and sustained ways. I see my clients as the experts in knowing what they want to accomplish in therapy and work with them to achieve this.

My Clinical Toolkit

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

I view CBT as the toolkit for mental clarity. In our sessions, we utilize this approach to gently examine the deeply ingrained thought patterns and core beliefs that drive your daily reactions. By bringing awareness to the automatic, often unhelpful loops the mind creates, we can practically reshape how you perceive your challenges, allowing you to respond to life with greater intention and less anxiety.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

While EMDR is widely known for trauma, I utilize it as a profound method for nervous system regulation and processing any emotional experience that feels "stuck." When traditional talk therapy reaches its limit, EMDR allows us to access the somatic, physical level of your experiences. It helps desensitize the raw emotional charge of the past, helping your brain and body finally settle securely into the safety of the present.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Grounded heavily in my humanistic values, I use Motivational Interviewing to honor your absolute autonomy. Change is hard, and ambivalence is a normal part of the human experience. Rather than telling you what to do, MI is a collaborative conversational style I use to help you uncover your own internal motivations, clarify your values, and safely bridge the gap between where you are and where you truly want to be.

Gottman Method

I view the Gottman Method as a practical, research-proven roadmap for emotional connection and relational health. Whether you are navigating the painful aftermath of infidelity, struggling with chronic conflict, or feeling a drift in intimacy, this approach moves away from "blame" and focuses entirely on building a solid foundation. Together, we will uncover the specific patterns that stall your communication and replace them with actionable skills to foster deep friendship, mutual respect, and a shared sense of meaning that sustains your relationship over time.
